About Chalk Paint™
Now famous the world over, Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan is the name of the one and only original Annie Sloan paint that she developed in 1990.
At the time, there was no paint available with the properties Annie was looking for, so she created her own, drawing on her lifetime of research and experience in working with paint and colour. She chose the name “Chalk Paint” because it was suggestive of its very matte almost chalky finish.
Chalk Paint™ is original and entirely different. Chalk Paint™ is the unique decorative paint Annie Sloan developed for furniture, floors and walls. Chalk Paint™ adheres to most surfaces and creates gorgeous results quickly and easily. Use it for a textured finish, a distressed finish, a smooth contemporary finish or even as a wash.
What Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan is NOT:
- It is not simply paint with chalk added to it.
- It is not chalkboard paint.
- It is not made by adding plaster of Paris or grout or even baking soda to an existing paint.
Specifically designed for furniture, Chalk Paint™ can also be used on walls, floors, fabrics and in artistic paintings. There is only one Chalk Paint™ but it offers endless possibilities.
Colours and Finishes
Annie Sloan has chosen her palette of colours carefully. They range from soft, pale hues to bright, vivid tones reminiscent of historic European décor as well as strong 20th century colours. The colours have been expertly chosen to meet every taste. They are rich and strong so they may be lightened, mixed together, dulled with Dark Wax or used as washes without losing their intensity and depth. And you can add beautiful patinas to your surfaces with Annie Sloan Soft Waxes – available in Clear, Dark (Rustic Brown), Black and also White.
Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan comes in quart or sample pot sizes in North America. A quart is generally enough for several small pieces (most people can get an entire bedroom set out of a quart, depending what surface they are covering). A sample pot, which is 120 ml (about 4 oz.) in size, will cover approximately 12 square feet. Sample pots are perfect for a small project - such as a lamp, a picture frame, or a small table or chair - and are a great way to test out new colors or to use with a myriad of Annie Sloan techniques including creating tinted waxes by combining with Annie Sloan’s Soft Wax. Annie Sloan’s paint colors are so pigment-rich that the small samples can also be used to tint the larger quarts. The possibilities truly are endless!
After painting, seal indoor furniture with Chalk Paint™ Wax.
On floors, seal with Chalk Paint™ Lacquer, which is designed for use in dry areas such as stairs, bedrooms, or living areas (not intended for use in bathrooms or outdoors.)
The paints mix and blend extremely well, readily giving you every colour you need, and the waxes increase the range and versatility of beautiful effects you can create. As Annie says, “Gorgeous results have never been so simple and straightforward.”
Remember, if it doesn't say Annie Sloan on the label, it's not Chalk Paint™!
